The Lights

Co-Director of Photography and Gaffer

Lighting is essential in a film or a photograph as it helps create emotion and the ambiance of the scene.

The objective of this exercise was to create 5 lighting set ups that would create a certain emotion after a 3-point set up was successfully executed.

Mystery and Danger.

2 point lighting, avoiding illumination of the face, lighting only part of the body. The second light was aimed at the abdominal area to make visible the object (knife) held in the characters hands.

Suspense.

A rendition of a 3-point light system, using colored gels to add the color and as such, a dimension to the scene.

A blue Key light with a contrasting red Fill to create the scene of a crowded downtown area where a woman reacts to being called out by her name.

God Complex.

Incorporating the use of a tilted camera angle, a rim lighting - a single key light - was used to create an almost ethereal but menacing persona.

Horror and Expectation.

The scene attempted to depict a woman watching a horror film on a television. A key lighting angled from below was

Basic.
